Woodpecker Farm Foods was originally founded in 1993 by Charles and Pat Linton. Charles is the great grandson of Betty Washington Lewis, George Washington’s sister. Many of the recipes for our products are family recipes dating back to Colonial times. We have tried to stay as authentic as possible; however, we have had to substitute ingredients and methods along the way (baking powder is a good example of this).

Since its founding, Woodpecker Farm Foods has strived to provide quality, Virginia-made products with a tie to our nation’s history. Although the company is now owned by Mike & Mandy Onda (Mandy is a relative of the Lintons), we seek to provide the same level of quality and service that Woodpecker Farm Foods is known for.

Photo of Woodpecker FarmWoodpecker Farm is an actual farm located in Woodford, Virginia (in Caroline County) that is owned by the Lintons. It was built in1750 by Samuel Hawes. In 1820, an addition was added when his grand-daughter married Col. John Washington, cousin and former aide-de-camp to General George Washington. It stayed in the Washington family until about 1940. After several interim owners, it was bought back by the Lintons in 1972, so it is back in the family. It is now a horse farm that provides boarding and breeding of horses, and riding lessons for all ages.

You can find out more about the Woodpecker Farm stables at their  Web site.
